Funk statt InfrarotRadio, not infrared

Die Fernbedienung funkt zum Hub — der sitzt beim Fernseher und ĂŒbernimmt das Infrarot. Deine GerĂ€te dĂŒrfen hinter geschlossenen SchranktĂŒren stehen. Und weil kein Bildschirm aufwachen muss, zieht sie im Ruhezustand 75 Mikroampere.

The remote talks to the hub over radio — the hub sits by the TV and handles the infrared. Your gear can stay behind closed cabinet doors. And with no screen to wake up, it draws 75 microamps at rest.

Alte Fernbedienung davorhalten, Taste drĂŒcken, fertig. Kennt der Hub das Protokoll, merkt er sich den Code — kennt er es nicht, zeichnet er das Signal roh auf und gibt es unverĂ€ndert wieder. Auf das Protokoll kommt es dabei nicht an.

Hold the old remote up to it, press the key, done. If the hub knows the protocol it stores the code — if it doesn't, it records the raw signal and plays it back unchanged. The protocol doesn't matter.

If its own update path fails, your phone fetches the file and hands it over. That's the difference between "still works in five years" and "Harmony".

Navigation, Farbtasten, LautstĂ€rke, Kanal, MenĂŒ, komplette Medien-Steuerung, AktivitĂ€ten und direkte Power-Tasten. Dazu sechs Smart-Home-Tasten, die tippen und halten unterscheiden — also zwölf frei belegbare Aktionen fĂŒr Licht, Rollos oder ganze Szenen. Und jede der 39 Tasten kann zusĂ€tzlich eine Automatisierung auslösen.

Navigation, colour keys, volume, channel, menu, full media transport, activities and direct power keys. Plus six smart-home buttons that tell tap from hold — twelve freely assignable actions for lights, blinds or whole scenes. And every one of the 39 keys can trigger an automation on top.

Der Hub meldet sich im Heimnetz als Matter-GerĂ€t an. Alexa schaltet ihn, kennt die richtigen Namen und zeigt den richtigen Zustand — lokal, ohne Konto beim Hersteller. LĂ€uft seit August am GerĂ€t. Zertifiziert ist es nicht: beim HinzufĂŒgen kommt eine einmalige RĂŒckfrage. Mehr dazu unter „Was es nicht kann".

The hub joins your network as a Matter device. Alexa switches it, uses the right names and shows the right state — locally, with no manufacturer account. Running on the device since August. It is not certified: adding it prompts a one-time warning. See "What it can't do".

Browser statt AppBrowser, not an app

Kein Rendering, kein Konzept. Der Hub steht unter meinem Fernseher, die Fernbedienung liegt auf der Couch, und beide werden jeden Abend benutzt — seit Monaten als einzige Fernbedienung im Raum.

No rendering, no concept. The hub sits under my TV, the remote lies on the couch, and both get used every evening — for months now, as the only remote in the room.

  • Kein Display — bewusst. Die AktivitĂ€ten liegen fest auf Tasten: nichts, was im Dunkeln erst aufwachen und leuchten muss, und ein Bauteil weniger, das ausfallen kann. Die Belegung richtest du am Hub ein, nicht unterwegs im MenĂŒ.
  • No display — on purpose. Activities live on fixed buttons: nothing that has to wake up and light itself in a dark room, and one less part that can fail. You set the assignments up on the hub, not from a menu in your hand.
  • Bang & Olufsen sendet auf einer Frequenz, die diese Bauart grundsĂ€tzlich nicht erreicht. Alles andere lĂ€sst sich anlernen — und wenn ein GerĂ€t dabei zickt, steht sein Code in der Datenbank auf dem Hub.
  • Bang & Olufsen transmits on a frequency this kind of hardware simply can't reach. Everything else can be learned — and if a device gives you trouble, its code is in the database on the hub.
  • Die Sprachsteuerung ist nicht zertifiziert. Sie funktioniert vollstĂ€ndig, aber beim HinzufĂŒgen meldet Alexa einmalig „nicht zertifiziert". Das lĂ€sst sich per Firmware nicht abstellen — es ist der FĂ€lschungsschutz des Systems. Die Zertifizierung kostet Mitgliedschaft und PrĂŒflabor und wĂ€re erst fĂ€llig, wenn daraus ein verkauftes Produkt wird.
  • Voice control isn't certified. It works fully, but adding it makes Alexa show a one-time "not certified" notice. No firmware can remove that — it's the system's anti-counterfeiting check. Certification means membership plus a test lab, and would only be due once this becomes a product for sale.
  • Kein fertiges GehĂ€use, keine Verpackung, kein Kundendienst. Genau das wĂ€re der nĂ€chste Schritt.
  • No finished enclosure, no packaging, no support desk. That's exactly what the next step would cost.
  • Ein-Mann-Projekt. Kein Termin, kein Preis, kein Versprechen.
  • A one-person project. No date, no price, no promises.

Ich habe das gebaut, weil meine Anlage vier Fernbedienungen brauchte und der Nachfolger, den ich wollte, nicht existierte. Es lÀuft jetzt seit Monaten als einzige Fernbedienung in meinem Wohnzimmer.

Ob ein Produkt daraus wird, weiß ich nicht. Bevor ich Geld in Zertifizierung und Werkzeuge stecke, wĂŒrde ich gerne wissen, ob es außer mir noch jemanden gibt, den dasselbe stört.

Deshalb diese Seite. Kein Verkauf, keine Vorbestellung, keine Zusage — nur eine Zahl, die mir sagt, ob es sich lohnt.

I built this because my setup needed four remotes and the successor I wanted didn't exist. It's been the only remote in my living room for months.

Whether it becomes a product, I don't know. Before spending money on certification and tooling, I'd like to find out whether anyone else is bothered by the same thing.
